NAD Executive Secretary
Responsible for NAD administrative operations, policy implementation, diversity, and general items pertaining to the Secretariat function.
Responsible for the Secretariat functions that include general calls; interpreting, developing and revising church policies; Inter-division travel; collecting and maintaining camp meetings schedules; and other administrative functions of the unit in the absence of and as assigned by the Secretary.
Carolyn R. Forrest, MSM, SPHR
Associate Secretary and Director of & IDE-ISE Services
Responsibility for the human relations component and its functions which include policy development, revision, and interpretation; coordination of the Sexual Ethics Committee, dispute and conciliation services and race relations.
Orna K. Garnett, MS, SHRM-CP, PHR
Director, Human Resource Services
Orna is the Director of Human Resource Services for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists in Maryland. She holds a Masters degree with a concentration in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. She is responsible for the Talent Management Cycle within Human Resources Services in Maryland for the North American Division. She oversees Employment, Compensation, Employee Relations, Benefits and Compliance. Prior to her current position, Orna worked in various industries as a Human Resource Professional in California, Massachusetts, and the Washington D.C. Metro area. She has served in the field of Human Resources for over 15 years.
Secretariat Support Staff
Performs a range of duties for the NAD Executive Secretary, including the preparation of agendas and minutes for the GC and NAD Credentials and Licenses Committees; helps to oversee the publishing of the NAD Working Policy, and assists on special projects.
Senior Administrative Office Assistant
Processes independent transfers, Inter-division calls, and division status applications. Performs a variety of duties that include statistical reporting, writing policy amendments for the Year-end Meeting, edits the Working Policy Book, edits all NAD minutes, assistant recording secretary, provides forms for collecting statistical data from local conferences and church clerks.
Records, transcribes, and distributes weekly/monthly meetings for NADCOM, NADCOA, ADMIN, Policy Review, and others. Records and processes official copies of NAD Year-end minutes; indexes minutes; assists with preparation, and indexing of the NAD Booklet which contains actions from the Year-end Meeting.
Appointee Coordinator/Administrative Assistant
Processes missionaries IDEs to NAD, prepares committees actions, and serves as liaison for NAD IDE employers, and organizes missionary furloughs/annual leaves. Coordinates the Authorized Meetings Calendar of the GC and NAD. Collects Yearbook data for NAD and performs records management duties.
Administrative Assistant to OHR
Performs various secretarial duties for the associate secretary and director of OVM; including service requests, maintaining division wide Camp Meeting dates/locations, plans and prepares the agenda for advisories, committees, and meetings; coordinates the Black History Program; assists with assigned administrative details for the OHR and OVM.
Assistant to the Undersecretary. Supports the Undersecretary with various duties including office automation, Inter-division Service Requests, aiding in the management of Laserfiche licenses, eAdventist committee meetings, policy development, calendar events, agendas, and minutes.
Human Resource Services Support Staff
Oversees and manages the benefits for NAD headquarter employees, conducts new employee orientations, exit interviews, and functions as the liaison between the employer and the optional benefits vendors.
HR Systems and Training Specialist
Responsibilities include the maintenance of HR systems and processes; creates and maintains Kronos accounts; oversees the ergonomic, graduate studies, and time adjustment; manages the informational and promotional materials for the Annual HR Conference; retains continuing education record for all NAD employees; maintains the external and internal HR webpages; develops the office directories, manuals, forms, and schedules; and other HR responsibilities.
Michael Martell, MPA, GMS-T
Senior Employment Specialist
Responsible for facilitating the new hire on-boarding process, the audit of job descriptions, review and compliance of government regulated federal employment laws, organizational policies and researches and compiles statistical data for use at the HR Director's request. He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on policy development and implementation and the Global Mobility Specialist/Strategic Talent Mobility designation (GMS-T). Prior to working with the NAD HRS, he was responsible for facilitating the employment and global relocation process of the International Service Employees for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Ernest Hernandez, MA, MPA
Processing and Communications Coordinator
Oversees processing of long-term volunteer assignments (from recruiting to deployments to reentry), as well as data collection for OVM. Responsible for ongoing communication with NAD field and internal administrative personnel with regards to protocol, crisis management, immigration and insurance.
Short-Term Groups Coordinator
Coordinates short-term mission trips for the Seventh-day Adventist volunteer denominational employee, retiree or group of volunteers from churches or educational institutions under two months and originating in North America.
Long-Term Volunteer Processing Assistant
Works with NAD long-term volunteers after NAD Appointees approval until service, and provides support and resources for volunteers returning from service. Assists with communications and social media.
Long-Term Volunteer Processing Assistant
Processes long-term volunteer applications until NAD Appointees Committee approval, and aids in creating new Adventist Volunteer Service calls for volunteer sites within NAD. Assists with communications and social media.
